Based on this fact, investigators opened criminal proceedings under Art. 359 (illegal acquisition, sale or use of special technical means of obtaining information) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The SBU press center reported this on January 18 on Facebook.
The intelligence service noted that “the transparent and unimpeded work of independent and professional media is an important condition for the development of Ukraine as a democratic state.”
The SBU considers it necessary to give a legal assessment to the facts of surveillance, regardless of whether or not facts of possible violations of the law regarding drug trafficking were made public in the covert filming materials.
Let us remind you that yesterday a video of hidden filming appeared on the Internet, where representatives of Bihus.Info are seen allegedly using prohibited substances. The founder of the project, Denis Bigus, said that all employees will undergo tests for drug use, and the team will face personnel changes. He also emphasized that his team was followed for about a year with an attempt to discredit the editors.
The Verkhovna Rada stated that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Freedom of Speech will soon formulate a request to the SBU to find out those involved in the surveillance of Bihus.Info journalists.
