On January 16, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky delivered a speech to participants at the World Economic Forum in Davos in which he called Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a “predator” who wants “war without end.”

At the beginning of his speech, Zelensky recalled that the full-scale war in Ukraine has lasted almost two years, and almost ten years since the annexation of Crimea. In addition, according to him, Russia also interferes in the lives of other countries – the Syrian war, the President of Ukraine noted, has been going on for about 13 years.
In fact, one person stole at least 13 years of peace, replacing them with pain and a crisis affecting the entire world,” Zelensky said.
He called Putin a man who personifies war:
Pptin is candid about what he wants, what he does and who his targets are. His answer to the question about the duration of the war is that it is always a war, without end. He wants it.
He enjoys conflicts that cause suffering to others. His response to peace offers was the supply of more and more weapons from North Korea and Iran. Regimes like his exist as long as they do not wage war.
According to Zelensky, 2024 should be decisive in the war in Ukraine, but freezing the conflict will not be a solution.
Let me remind you that after 2014 there were attempts to freeze the war in Donbass. There were very influential guarantors of this process: the then chancellor of Germany, the then presidents of France. But Poutine is a predator who is not happy with frozen food. And we must protect ourselves, our children, our homes, our lives. And we normalize the idea that aggression can be defeated—even Putin’s aggression, which has been going on for ten years or more.
In addition, Zelensky proposed introducing sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry, calling their absence “an obvious weakness of the West” despite the fact that Putin is “the only terrorist in the world who has taken a nuclear power plant hostage.”
The Davos Forum opened on January 15. A day earlier, Vladimir Zelensky met with representatives of the parliament of Switzerland, which is hosting him. Zelensky and Swiss President Viola Amherd agreed to hold a peace summit at the level of heads of state and announced that they had begun preparations for it.
On the opening day of the forum in Davos, Zelensky also met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
