Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in Putin’s presence, said what he thinks about quasi-republics and the war in Ukraine.
Kazakhstan will not recognize the so -called “Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics”. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called them quasi-states. Tokayev stated this in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“I would like to note the following: modern international law is the UN Charter. The two basic principles laid down in the Charter are now in conflict with each other. It is the integrity of the territory and the right to self -determination. The founders of the UN at that moment were not considered, but perhaps it was deliberately introduced as a compromise, ”he said.
According to him, if we are guided by the principles of the UN Charter on the right of countries to self-determination, instead of 193 UN member states, more than 500-600 states will appear in the world.
“Of course, it will be chaos. For this reason, we do not recognize either Taiwan, or Kosovo, or South Ossetia, or Abkhazia. And, apparently, this principle will apply to the quasi-state territories, which, in our opinion, is Luhansk and Donetsk “, Tokayev stressed.
It should be noted that at the same time, the President of Kazakhstan did not specify how the right of countries to self -determination relates to Russia’s conquest of the Donbass.
It will be recalled that the UN did not exclude the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The organization believes that the prospect, which was previously unthinkable, “emerged within the limits of the possible.”
