Ahead of the nearly 30% lead in Iowa is Donald Trump. According to the latest NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll, Donald Trump received 48%, Nikki Gailey – 20%, Ron DeSantis – 16% of the vote.

Party elections in Iowa are called caucuses, as opposed to primaries, as the process is called in most American states.

Voice of America reports from the city of Indianola in Iowa that on Sunday, despite a 26-degree frost, a line of people lined up to attend the election rally of Donald Trump, the former US President.

On January 15, the election season for US presidential candidates begins in Iowa. Caucuses (party meetings) for Republicans and Democrats will be held differently.

In 2020, Democrats changed the procedure: they will choose a nominee by mail, and then announce the results.

Des Moines Register/NBC News/MediaCom polls show that 48% of respondents planning to participate in the caucuses are ready to vote for Trump.

Nikki Gailey’s support rating is noteworthy – according to current preferences, 20% of Iowa voters surveyed give her preference, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – 16% (as of December 25, Gailey was supported by 15.7% of respondents, DeSantis – 18.4%).

The ratings of other candidates do not exceed 10%.

In the December DMR/NBC poll, Trump gained 51%, and in October – 43%, while his main rivals in both cases did not gain 20%, BBC News writes.

On January 11, at the Republican presidential debate in Iowa, DeSantis and Gailey argued about supporting Ukraine.

Gailey insisted on continued arms supplies, while Desantis demanded a “clear” strategy in the Russian-Ukrainian war and greater accountability for allocated funds.
