More than 20 companies from Finland supply products related to the most important military items to Russia, the language company Yle found out after studying customs documents.

In particular, the journalistic investigation says, the companies supplied products necessary for Russia to wage war in Ukraine.
According to journalists, these are small logistics and forwarding companies owned by immigrants from Russia. The names of the companies are not being disclosed “because they do not have significant economic power and their owners have not been convicted of crimes,” writes the Russian service Yle.
Thus, a company located near Lappeenranta sent sensors, diesel engines, fuel pumps and transmission equipment to Russia. Similar goods, journalists note, were found in destroyed Russian weapons and vehicles in Ukraine. According to the authors of the investigation, at least two Russian clients of this company are connected with the FSB – letters of gratitude from the Russian intelligence service were published on the website of one of them.
Finnish companies also supply the Russian Federation with equipment suitable for military research, product development and intelligence, such as signal analysis equipment, frequency synthesizers, printed circuit board parts, optical devices and voltmeters.
Companies resident in Finland exported goods to Russia directly or acted as an intermediary. Goods from Finland were also sent through other countries, for example, Uzbekistan, with the help of which, the authors of the investigation write, Russia circumvents sanctions.
As journalists noted, it is unclear whether the military industry and security services in Russia used goods imported from Finland. According to the journalists’ report, at least nine Russian clients of Finnish companies are directly linked to Russian intelligence services or the defense industry.
Representatives of several companies contacted by reporters denied violating sanctions or supporting Russian military forces. The Finnish companies said they were unaware of their clients’ contacts with the Russian military industry and intelligence services.
I am 100 percent sure that our goods do not end up being used by the defense industry, said a Russian businessman living in Finland.
