At the same time, France has lost interest in the eternal duel between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen; now all attention is focused on their possible successors – the new head of government Gabriel Attal and the head of the right-wing party Marine Le Pen Jordan Bardell.
Bild writes that Jordan Bardella led the National Rally party in 2022, and in 2023 he was able to become the most popular politician in France. After Gabriel Attal recently took office as prime minister, Bardella went on the attack and said his party had drafted a migration law that was “a thousand times tougher” than the new government’s proposed measures.
Bardella leaves no doubt that he wants to succeed Attal as prime minister in 2027 if Le Pen wins the presidential election. If this happens, Bardella will take office at 32 years old and thereby break the age record for a new prime minister.
In addition to being the youngest prime minister of France in history, Attal is also the first openly gay person in this position. He has already appointed his former partner, 38-year-old Stéphane Sejourne, as foreign minister. Like Attal, he was previously an adviser to Macron.
French President Emmanuel Macron accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on January 8.
France24 writes that Born’s resignation will not lead to a change in France’s political course, but rather signals President Macron’s desire to focus on new priorities within the country.
The past year has been marred by political scandals over controversial reforms to the pension system and immigration laws.
