A rare A-50 airborne early warning and control aircraft was shot down over the Sea of Azov. In addition, one Il-22M11 was shot down.
On the night of Sunday, January 14, the Ukrainian military shot down a Russian A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft over the Sea of Azov and shot down an Il-22 aircraft. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to sources in the Defense Forces. This information was also released by the People’s Deputy from the Servant of the People Yuri Mysyagin.
Reportedly, the A-50 aircraft was shot down immediately after it went on duty in the Kirillovka area around 21:10-21:15 on January 14. The A-50 disappeared from radar and stopped responding to tactical aviation requests , and later the pilot of a Su-30 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces discovered the ignition and crash of an unknown aircraft.
The Il-22M11 aircraft was on duty in the Strelkovoye area and was shot down near the coast of the Azov Sea at about 21:00 on January 14. After the defeat, the plane planned to land in Anapa, requested evacuation, called ambulance and a fire truck.
Also, the spokesman of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, Sergei Bratchuk, said that his sources recorded the disappearance of an A-50 from radars in the Azov Sea area and the shooting down of an Il-22.
“According to preliminary data, the information has been confirmed, so we are waiting for comments from the Air Force. If we talk about long-range radar surveillance aircraft, then only ≈30 units were produced. The target is fattening ,” more. Bratchuk.
Let’s recall that on February 26 last year, the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft was damaged as a result of a drone attack on the Mashulishchi air base in Belarus.
