72% of party supporters want to see Trump as the Republican presidential candidate. At the same time, only 57% of Democratic Party sympathizers want Biden’s nomination.
As the US presidential primary season begins, Donald Trump leads all of his Republican rivals in key popularity indicators. At the same time, President Joe Biden’s job approval rating fell to a 15-year low. ABC News reported this on Sunday, January 14.
Trump was particularly rated by Republicans and Republican independents on three dimensions: best chance to win in November, strong leader and most qualified party candidate, according to national polls.
Donald Trump also leads his Republican opponents, but by a smaller margin, in two other indicators – empathy and shared values. And seven out of ten Republicans rated Trump’s performance positively.
According to the poll, 72% of adults who support the Republican Party would be satisfied with Trump as a candidate. Other candidates scored lower: Nikki Haley – 48%; Vivek Ramaswamy – 44%; Chris Christie (who withdrew his candidacy) – 23%.
Meanwhile, among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, 57% would be satisfied with Joe Biden’s party’s nomination, reflecting his poor ratings overall and on issues such as the economy and immigration.
Let’s remember that in two states – Colorado and Maine – Trump was banned from participating in the primaries. The Supreme Court agreed to hear Trump’s appeal of the Colorado court’s decision.
