There is no point in saying that the grain agreement is an alternative to the Ukrainian corridor, because the volume of cargo speaks for itself, said Dmitry Pletenchuk.
Ukraine is exporting more cargo through the sea corridor than it did before the start of a full-scale war with Russia. The Speaker of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmitry Pletenchuk said this in a telethon on Thursday, January 11.
“Most of the cargo is grain, which is lacking in the so-called global South. As for his (sea corridor – ed.) work, it has actually reached its capacity before a full-scale invasion. We have crossed the border of 500 ships and more than 10 million tons of cargo,” said Pletenchuk.
According to him, it makes no sense to say that the grain agreement is an alternative to the Ukrainian corridor, because the volume of cargo speaks for itself.
As is known, in mid-July Russia withdrew from the grain agreement, which ensured the export of Ukrainian agricultural products across the Black Sea. In August, Ukraine announced new temporary routes for civilian ships to/from Black Sea ports. After that, the Russian army began to actively build ports in the Odessa region.
But the sea corridor is gaining momentum. According to the latest data, Ukraine exported 15 million tons of cargo by sea.
