The meeting at the NATO headquarters in Brussels was called at the initiative of the Ukrainian side in connection with the massive Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine.
During the Ukraine-NATO emergency meeting, the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance spoke in favor of adopting general sanctions and new restrictions against the DPRK and Iran in response to their supply of ballistic missiles and drones that carried out air strike on the territory of Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, January 10.
The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Nikolai Oleshchuk and the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Alexey Sergeev.
“The Ukrainian side reported the consequences of enemy attacks and drew attention to the need to provide additional air defense systems such as Patriot, IRIS-T and NASAMS, as well as anti-aircraft guided missiles for them,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
NATO member states have strongly condemned Russia’s massive rocket and drone attacks on cities, civilian targets and people in Ukraine. The Allies reaffirmed their commitment to support Ukraine and their readiness to provide Ukraine with the necessary support, including with regard to air defense systems.
“Announcements have been made by individual countries regarding the following assistance packages. Some Alliance member states have announced an increase in their financial contributions to the Comprehensive Assistance Package to meet the priority needs of Ukraine,” the ministry added.
The White House has evidence that the Russian military launched North Korean-made ballistic missiles into Ukraine last week.
