The detainee leaked the locations of the Defense Forces involved in combat operations on the eastern front, first of all trying to identify the bases of Ukrainian air defense and MLRS systems, in particular the Haymars. The SBU press center reported this today, January 9.
The defendant was also interested in the places of greatest concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Slavyansk region, the SBU notes.
According to the intelligence service, the attacker disseminated the information received through one of the enemy channels in a popular messenger administered by representatives of the DPR MDB.
However, thanks to the prompt response of the SBU, it was possible to thwart hostile plans to carry out targeted attacks on Ukrainian targets, the SBU notes.
The detainee is a 43-year-old local resident. According to the investigation, he:
- supported Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, which he repeatedly wrote about in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels;
- subsequently he began to “lead” classified information about the locations and the approximate number of Ukrainian troops in the Slavic direction into the FSB chat bot;
- To collect information, he personally walked around the city and surrounding villages, where he secretly recorded the locations and routes of movement of Ukrainian Armed Forces units.
During the search, a mobile phone was confiscated from the detainee, which he used in reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of Russia, the SBU notes.
SBU investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
The attacker is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
