The Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy at a meeting on January 8, 2024, by a majority vote, recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt as a basis and in general draft Resolution No. 10371 “On the establishment of a holiday in Ukraine – Thanksgiving Day to God” (Vladimir Vyatrovich and Alexander Kabanov abstained). The author of this legislative initiative is MP Viktor Myalyk, reports Detector Media.
It is proposed to celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the last Sunday of September.
The choice of this day of the year to celebrate Thanksgiving Day to God is explained by the traditional custom for the Ukrainian people of gathering together after the harvest and thanking God for the fertility of the land, the bread collected from the fields and the well-being of each family… Thanksgiving Day is proposed to be celebrated at the inter-confessional level with the goal of the entire Ukrainian people could turn to God with gratitude for His mercy, which was shown to the Ukrainian people in different historical times and is manifested at the present time, when Ukraine found itself in conditions of full-scale armed aggression from the Russian Federation, the explanatory note says.
The draft resolution recommends that the Cabinet of Ministers, with the involvement of representatives of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, develop and approve, within three months from the date of adoption of this Resolution, a comprehensive plan of measures for the celebration of Thanksgiving Day.
According to the chairman of the Servant of the People committee, Nikita Poturaev, this project has a unifying goal in relation to all believers, regardless of religious denominations.
According to the author of the project, the implementation of the resolution, if adopted, does not require the allocation of additional funds from the state budget of Ukraine, since the celebration of Thanksgiving Day does not require an additional day off.
At the same meeting, the committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt as a basis, with the deadline for submitting amendments and proposals reduced by half, bill No. 10361 “On amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Museums and Museum Affairs” on the activities of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, the adoption of which will contribute to the separation of Canada for the completion of the Holodomor Museum.
