Various political forces believe that the issue of transferring long-range precision missiles to Kyiv is long overdue.
In Germany, pressure is mounting on Chancellor Olaf Scholz regarding the need to transfer long-range, high-precision Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. The local publication Rheinische Post wrote about it on Saturday, January 6, citing comments from politicians.
In particular, the chairman of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, assured journalists that “all European states must continue to support Ukraine with weapons.”
“Ukraine needs more ammunition, more spare parts for Leopard-2, but above all Taurus cruise missiles,” he said.
The Greens’ defense policy spokesperson in the German parliament, Sarah Nanni, also said that “the delivery of the Taurus cruise missiles is long overdue.”
The representative of the Christian Democratic Union party, Roderich Kiesewetter, said that the insufficient supply of weapons to the Ukrainian army would allow the Russians to “strengthen themselves and their logistics routes.”
The publication added that the stronger the calls from the German authorities, the stronger the pressure on Scholz regarding the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Let’s recall that this week, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that Ukraine should not count on the early delivery of Taurus long-range missiles.
As reported, the German company MBDA Deutschland announced at the beginning of November last year that it is ready to resume the production of Taurus long-range missiles as soon as possible.
