The speaker of the joint press center of the Tauride Defense Forces, Colonel Alexander Shtupun, spoke about this on air at the national telethon, the Ukrinform agency reports.
According to him, the enemy, having suffered losses in the previous days, acts in waves and somewhat reduces the number of attacks:
- because of the New Year holidays, the Russians do not really want to go on the attack at all, some units begin to rebel and refuse or run away from the trenches so as not to leave – that is, they sabotage;
- at this time, when infantry attacks are somewhat reduced, the enemy is trying to cause maximum damage to logistics routes, fortifications and reach the Ukrainian military, so that later he can again throw new infantry into the “meat” assaults, which he has collected or pulled up reserves.
Shtupun recalled that the number of attacks had doubled the day before, and today the enemy is not abandoning attempts to cordon off Avdiivka.
“Today, 14 enemy attempts have already been repelled to improve the tactical situation in the areas of Novobakhmutovka, Stepnoy, Avdeevka and nine more attacks near Pervomaiskoye and Nevelskoye,” he noted.
According to Shtupun, the number of enemy shellings fluctuates at 900-1000 per day. With such shelling, the enemy is trying to destroy the strengthening of the Ukrainian defense forces.
Regarding the situation in the Zaporozhye direction, Shtupun noted that the enemy is currently trying to regain the lost position, previously lost positions.
Seven attacks have already been repulsed today. The enemy tried to move forward in the area of Robotinoye and northwest of Verbovoye,” he said.
Answering the question whether there is a shortage of ammunition in the Defense Forces in this direction, Shtupun emphasized:
In our direction, the amount of ammunition allows us to complete the tasks. And we continue to operate effectively – our artillerymen, our UAV operators. The enemy’s total losses remain the same – 400-500 people per day.
He also noted that the enemy does not have an advantage in drones on the battlefield.
I wouldn’t say that the enemy has an advantage in drones, he uses up to 100 units. If the weather is better, then up to 150. Our electronic warfare is quite successful in certain areas in combating this threat,” Shtupun emphasized.
