Ukrainian police have opened about 9 thousand criminal proceedings regarding cases of evasion from military service. 2,600 such materials have already been sent to the court. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko announced this on January 4 during a telethon.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also said that law enforcement officers are ready to take up arms if the situation at the front worsens. As of today, there are 98 thousand police officers in the police force. Before the full-scale war, they were moderately dispersed throughout the country.
In the combat zone and in front-line territories, 35 thousand police officers are serving in intensive mode. Another 5 thousand law enforcement officers are in the ranks of the Lut brigade of the Offensive Guard.
The remaining police officers ensure law and order in the country, fight crime and ensure order on the roads, and respond to citizens’ requests.
Let us remind you that the British edition of the BBC reported that in the period from February 2022 to August 31, 2023, almost 20 thousand people liable for military service fled from Ukraine. The men crossed the borders of Romania, Moldova, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.
Ukrainian border guards detained more than 21 thousand men while trying to cross the border. 14 thousand 313 people tried to cross the border on foot or by swimming, and the remaining 6 thousand 800 men relied on official documents obtained fraudulently.
