Military aid supplies to Ukraine must be halted until Congress passes additional support.
Washington can no longer send military aid to Ukraine until Congress approves a request for additional funding. White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said this in a briefing on Wednesday, January 3.
“They (arms deliveries – ed.) will be forced to stop. The President signed the last security aid package, which we had the authority to replenish. That’s it. We need additional legislation to provide additional assistance to Ukraine,” said Kirby .
At the same time, he explained that there is a certain delay between the announcement of the supplies and the actual delivery of weapons to Ukraine – “several days or weeks” – so the final package should arrive in the coming weeks.
“But after that, in the absence of additional funding, there is no other magic pot from which something can be obtained,” a White House spokesman said.
He added that the White House will do everything possible to continue to support Ukraine.
We remind you that on December 27, the United States announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth $250 million.
As you know, Republicans in the US Senate have not come to an agreement with the White House on changes to the immigration law to which the aid package to Ukraine is tied. The conclusion of the agreement was postponed until January.
