Warsaw will comply with the embargo introduced in May 2023. Polish authorities will wait for new rules to be introduced at the level of the European Union. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, Czeslaw Sekierski, stated this in an interview with TVP Info, the department reported on Twitter.
We must maintain the embargo until the terms that replace it are agreed upon. “I believe that a good solution would be to introduce licensing of transport using simultaneously transit routes outside Poland,” the official noted.
As Polskie Radio 24 also writes, Sekierski expressed confidence that grain exports from Ukraine should occur in a different way than through the territory of Poland or another European country. Otherwise, according to him, there is a certain risk that during transit some of the Ukrainian grain or other products may remain in Poland.
Let us remind you that on September 15, the European Commission announced that the European Union will not continue temporary restrictions on grain from Ukraine. After this, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia announced their decision to single-handedly block the import of Ukrainian agricultural products.
Already on September 24, Polish President Andrzej Duda announced the creation of transit corridors for the export of Ukrainian grain to countries in need. And in early October, Lithuania announced the opening of a corridor for the transit of Ukrainian grain to the ports of the Baltic countries. This “Baltic corridor” was supposed to reduce pressure on the Ukrainian border and increase supplies to African countries and beyond.
