The President of Ukraine thanked the Canadian leader for providing additional NASAMS systems and missiles for them.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, at the first international talks in 2024, spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to tighten the protection of Ukrainian skies. The head of state announced this on his Telegram channel on Monday, January 1.
“First of all, we talked about security. I informed Justin about Russian attacks on our cities and villages: constant fear of missiles, attacks by suicide bombers. At night just before the New Year and New Year’s Eve, our air defense forces managed to destroy more than 80 attack drones, but, in Unfortunately, in the regions of Sumy, Odessa, Lvov , Poltava, Kiev, Donetsk and Kherson also had hits that caused damage to civilian objects,” he emphasized.
Zelensky added that he thanked Trudeau for his willingness to help strengthen the protection of Ukrainian skies, especially for providing additional NASAMS systems and missiles for them.
“We discussed the work on security guarantees and agreed that our teams will in the near future intensify the bilateral dialogue for the corresponding agreement,” added the president.
The leaders discussed preparations for the fourth meeting of advisers working on the implementation of the Peace Formula. The meeting will take place in mid-January in Davos.
Zelensky thanked Trudeau, as well as Canada “for appropriate support at the international level for our efforts.”
As we wrote earlier, on November 24, Canada announced a new military aid package for Ukraine.
