One of the reasons is that some countries are depleting their stocks of arms, so they have switched to providing financial assistance.
The American newspaper The New York Times, following yesterday’s meeting, Ramstein cited reasons why arms supplies to Ukraine are slower than we would like.
“Some NATO countries are wary of sending heavy weapons, hoping for a negotiated truce, but the alliance publicly says it is ready to help Ukraine defeat Russia,” the statement said.
The publication also states that “the promise of weapons and their delivery are two different things.”
Other factors include:
-
the unwillingness of the West to consume its arsenal,
-
inability to quickly produce additional weapons,
-
complex logistics,
-
fear of sensitive technologies falling into the hands of the Russians,
-
the need to train Ukrainians in handling new types of weapons,
-
the risk of escalation if there are strikes against Russia.
Julianne Smith, US Ambassador to NATO, also spoke about the difficulties in arms supply to Ukraine.

“It’s a constantly evolving process, it has many components. First of all, we have to address the ever-changing list of requests that come from Kyiv on an almost daily basis. We receive a stream of requests, we try, with allies, to determine which of them can answer, who is ready for what will be given. It’s hard and difficult because, again, requests change quickly, “he said.
According to him, now Western allies are considering the issue of providing armored vehicles to Ukraine.
At the same time, some countries are “gradually beginning to express concern” due to the fact that their stockpiles of weapons have been depleted. “Some countries gave everything they had,” he said.
As a result, some countries have decided to switch to providing financial assistance, Smith added.
