A pro-Palestinian New Year’s Eve demonstration was banned in Berlin. On Saturday, December 30, the police of the German capital announced it in their Twitter (X).
“After evaluating and weighing all interests, especially the fundamental right to freedom of assembly, the Berlin police have banned the assembly,” the police said.
The rally, under the slogan “No celebration during genocide,” was announced for the period from 10:30 pm on New Year’s Eve to 1 am on January 1.

Berlin police added that the protesters were planning a route to Sonnenallee, where attacks on law enforcement officers, firefighters and rescue workers were recorded last year. Therefore, this year a zone was introduced on this street where the use of pyrotechnics is prohibited.
A ban on a rally can be appealed in court.
