These people did not submit documents to obtain a residence permit in Latvia before the deadline established by changes in the immigration law – November 30.
Latvia has deported at least 1,213 Russian citizens who did not comply with immigration laws and did not request a residence permit in the country. The Citizenship and Migration Office of Latvia announced this on Wednesday, December 27, Delfi reports.
It was noted that these people did not submit documents to obtain a residence permit in Latvia before the deadline established by the amendments to the immigration law – November 30, and there is no information that these people have already left the country.
The publication reminds that at the beginning of January 2024, permanent residence permits for Russian citizens who did not apply for EU permanent resident status before December 31 will expire. However, this deadline for submitting documents applies only to citizens of the Russian Federation who retook the state language exam before November 30.
We remind you that in September new rules for obtaining a residence permit began in Latvia, according to which, to obtain the status of a permanent resident of the EU, you must pass a state language test and confirm your solvency.
In October, it was reported that more than 3,000 Russians living in Latvia did not apply for long-term EU resident status.
