The General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (Parliament) has the final decision.
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament approved on Tuesday, December 26, Sweden’s application to join NATO. TRT Haber reported this.
It was noted that the protocol on Sweden’s membership in NATO was first included in the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Commission on November 16. But the negotiations could not be completed, and information about the obligations was invited from the Swedish government.
The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs met for the second time. According to the head of the committee, Fuat Oktay, Sweden has taken steps, especially in the financing of terrorism. However, as he said, “we have not yet seen the expected results in the fight against terrorism.”
Finally, the protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO was adopted. The final word remains with the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
We remind you that the media wrote that Turkey is preparing to postpone Sweden’s entry into NATO until 2024.
Earlier it was reported that the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Numan Kurtulmus, signed a protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO.
