The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police neutralized an organized criminal group that was terrorizing and trying to keep residents of the Volyn region in fear. The attackers created artificial conflicts with local residents, and then demanded money from them for the “peaceful resolution of controversial issues.” The SBU press center reported this on December 26.
Thus, the bandits demanded the return of a non-existent debt of more than 120 thousand UAH from a wounded grenade thrower warrior who returned from the front line for treatment and rehabilitation. When the serviceman refused to pay them “tribute”, he was beaten. The victim was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and contusion of the cervical spine.
Law enforcement officers have already detained three members of the criminal group after they received part of the money from the man. The gang was organized by a criminal serving a sentence in one of the colonies in Volyn for robbery.
All four defendants were informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 189 (extortion committed by an organized group under martial law, involving the infliction of grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The detainees are in custody and face up to 12 years in prison.
Let us remind you that in August in the Zhytomyr region the SBU detained a gang of racketeers who were extorting money from a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These criminals daily extorted large sums of money from people under fictitious pretexts or because of artificially provoked conflict situations. A
