Maia Sandu also asked for the support of the people of Moldova regarding her candidacy for the presidential elections next year.
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has initiated a referendum in the fall of 2024 on the country’s entry into the European Union. He said this in a video message on the occasion of three years in office as head of state on Sunday, December 24.
He recalled that the EU leaders recently approved the decision to start negotiations on the integration of Moldova. According to him, this is “something that seemed impossible three years ago.”
“We still have a lot to do. And the most important thing is to ensure peace and a better future for all families and children of Moldova. We have a guarantee of such a future as a member state of the European Union,” Sandu said.
The President called on the Parliament to start the organization of a referendum in the fall of 2024, in which the vote of the Moldovan people will be decisive.
He also asked for support from the people of Moldova regarding his candidacy for next year’s elections, in which he will participate to “complete the mission of European integration.”
Let’s recall that on December 14-15, a summit of the European Council was held in Brussels, where the leaders of the member countries of the community approved the start of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU.
