Iceland joined two coalitions supporting Ukraine – the IT coalition and the mine action coalition. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced this on Sunday, December 24.
It is indicated that since the beginning of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, Iceland has provided humanitarian, economic and security support to our state mainly through international organizations – the UN, World Bank, NATO and other multinational forums .
“We hope that our support will lead to the strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities. By joining coalitions and providing additional funding as part of the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package, we continue our non-lethal support for Ukraine in the fight against Russia’s unjust and illegal aggression,” said Icelandic Foreign Minister Bjarni Benediktsson.
Currently, the IT coalition includes eight countries: Estonia, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Japan. The UK and Italy have also announced their intention to join.
Iceland also announced additional funding in the amount of 340 thousand euros through the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package for the purchase of medical supplies for Ukraine.
Let’s recall that in November, Estonia and Iceland sent another military field hospital to Ukraine.
Earlier, Iceland decided to support the G7 countries’ declaration of security guarantees for Ukraine.
