The US Department of Defense said that the motor vessel CHEM PLUTO, a Liberian-flagged chemical tanker owned by Japan and the Netherlands, was attacked in the Indian Ocean.
This happened 200 nautical miles off the coast of India using a one-way attack drone launched from Iran, a Pentagon spokesman said.
There were no casualties as a result of the attack, and the short-term fire on board the tanker was extinguished.
The Pentagon noted that the attack is further evidence of growing risks to shipping after Iranian-backed Yemeni militants began attacking ships in the Red Sea.
The ministry said in a statement that this is Iran’s seventh attack on commercial shipping since 2021.
