By the end of 2023, Russian authorities have banned nearly five million Russians from leaving the country because of debts. This was announced on Saturday, December 23, by the press service of the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP) of Russia, quoted by Russian media.
It was noted that in Moscow alone, in 11 months, 742 thousand orders to restrict travel were issued, most of which are still valid today, bailiffs indicated.
Over the years, the number of Russians subject to travel restrictions has increased. At the end of 2016, approximately 1 million people were on the travel ban list; in 2017, their number reached 1.8 million, in 2018 – 3 million, in 2020 – 4.1 million. The highest value of the indicator was recorded at the end of 2022 – then about 8 million Russians will be limited in the right to travel abroad due to debts.
Restrictions on leaving the country have been in force in Russia for debtors since 2005. At the border, the debtor will not be allowed to leave, even if he has a visa, until the debt payment mark appears on appropriate database.
