The Central Election Commission of Russia has not registered an initiative group in support of an independent presidential candidate, 40-year-old journalist from the city of Rzhev, Ekaterina Duntseva, who previously stated that she wants to end the war with Ukraine, release political prisoners and carry out democratic reforms.

The Central Electoral Commission stated that numerous errors were found in the protocols it submitted, Polish Radio reports.
It is noted that formally Duntsova may still be included in future electoral lists, but, according to Russian opposition activists, the likelihood of this is very low:
- The deadline for submitting applications for registration of initiative groups is December 27. True, Duntseva herself does not believe that she will be able to assemble the initiative group on time, but formally she has the right to do so;
- its representatives stated that they would appeal the CEC decision in court;
- Some Russian opposition activists also suggest that her candidacy should be presented by the Yabloko party, which positions itself as an opposition party. However, according to Russian media reports, the party leadership refuses to do this, citing the fact that they “don’t know her.”
The Russian presidential elections are scheduled for March 15, 16 and 17, 2024. A total of 29 candidates submitted applications to register initiative groups, including dictator Vladimir Putin.
