The head of the Polish and Ukrainian Foreign Ministries said that the countries are constantly looking for an opportunity to unblock the border.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba said in a joint press conference that they will continue to look for a solution to unblock the border between the two countries. This was reported by Sky News on Friday, December 22.
“There will always be issues between neighbors that need resolution, be they historical or short-term issues. That’s why I took from Poland the Deputy Minister of Transport and the Minister of Agriculture. It is necessary to restore the conditions of fair competition so that everyone can benefit from both trade and from transportation. And I think what we said to each other can provide the key to finding solutions,” explained the Polish official.
Kuleba said that the countries will continue to look for a solution to unblock the common border, where Polish carriers have been protesting since the beginning of November.
“We started with the need to solve problematic issues in relations. There is a desire to solve these issues on both sides – both in Ukraine and in Poland,” the Ukrainian minister said.
Poland’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure at another press conference expressed hope that the issue of truckers’ protests on the Ukrainian border would be resolved by the end of the year.
As is known, on November 6, Polish carriers began to block the movement of trucks near the three largest checkpoints on the Ukrainian border: Korczowa – Krakovets, Grebene – Rawa-Russkaya, Dorogusk – Yagodin.
Among the main demands is the return of training permits for Ukrainian carriers, which were canceled, according to the agreement with the European Union, until June 30, 2024.
