For Rheinmetall, this is the first large order from Romania, a member of NATO and the EU, the company’s press service reported.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with arms manufacturer Rheinmetall for the modernization of the Oerlikon GDF 103 anti-aircraft artillery system. This was announced today, December 22, by the Rheinmetall press service.
This is reported to be the first major order for Rheinmetall from Romania, a member of NATO and the EU.
The total value of the contract is approximately 328 million euros. The supply of four systems and spare parts for them, as well as military training and other related services, are provided.
Romania should receive two systems within the next two years, and two more within three years.
“This first significant order from the Romanian government expands our presence in Central Europe. It also emphasizes Rheinmetall’s role as a leading supplier of ground-based air defense systems. In addition, this order will strengthen the defense capabilities of the EU and NATO in the eastern part of Europe, which we are very pleased about,” – said Armin Papperger, Chairman of the Management Board of Rheinmetall AG.
It was previously reported that Rheinmetall will produce shells for Ukraine worth €142 million.
