The shots were heard near the villages of Giska and Corzhova on the left bank of the Dniester as part of unsanctioned exercises.
On December 22, shots were heard in unrecognized Transnistria. The shots were fired by members of the Russian contingent stationed there. This was reported by the Moldovan publication Newsmaker.
It was noted that shots were heard near the villages of Giska and Corzhova on the left bank of the Dniester as part of unauthorized exercises.
The head of the Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC), Sergiu Golovach, said the shooting lasted about 40 minutes.
The Reintegration Bureau stated that they will raise the issue of what happened at the next JCC meeting.
“We will raise this issue at the JCC meeting, where the Moldovan delegation will confirm its unchanged position on not accepting unilateral military action on the perimeter of the Security Zone, which could cause destabilization of the situation in the region and panic in populations,” the department said.
The JCC is a joint military command structure from Moldova, Transnistria and Russia, which operates in the demilitarized zone on the border between Moldova and Ukraine.
Earlier, the Moldavian Foreign Ministry reported that from December 17 to 22, the Moldovan military will conduct military exercises near the borders of unrecognized Transnistria, as well as 22 km from the Ukrainian border.
Let’s recall that in May, the unrecognized Transnistria asked Russia to increase the number of so-called “peackeepers” because of the alleged worsening security risk.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Russian military personnel based in Transnistria must understand that if they want to live, they must leave there.
