The UN has assessed the feasibility of extending the grain agreement

The agreement, originally signed in July 2022 in Istanbul by Turkey, the UN, Russia and Ukraine, aims to continue the export of grains from Ukrainian ports.

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres does not believe that the renewal of the grain agreement makes sense. He said this in a press briefing on Friday, December 22.

At the same time, the Secretary General emphasized that it would be good to create conditions for free navigation in the Black Sea.

“I don’t think the renewal of the grain agreement is justified. But I strongly believe that it would be good if we had conditions for free navigation in the Black Sea,” he said.

Let’s recall that earlier the Secretary General of the UN proposed that the Russian Federation extend the grain agreement in exchange for the export of fertilizers.

Türkiye is not abandoning its attempts to restore the “grain corridor”. This is what Turkish Ambassador to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Güldere said, ending his tenure in this post.

We remind you that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that a new grain corridor through Moldova and Romania will soon be created.
