The North Atlantic Alliance cannot predict how military operations will develop on the territory of Ukraine.
At the anniversary summit in Washington in July 2024, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Alliance, Ukraine can count on special attention. This is what US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith said on Wednesday, December 20.
“First of all, I would say that our goal is to celebrate and applaud the many achievements of the Alliance for many decades. But we are also clearly focused on our friends in Ukraine,” he said.
Smith pointed out that it is now difficult to say how the events will develop on the front, but the members of the Alliance are glad to see the Ukrainian president. He expressed confidence that the Alliance would maintain its support for Ukraine in its struggle.
Smith said the summit in Washington would be a “great opportunity” to look to the future and discuss the alliance’s ability to respond to future challenges such as “cyber, space, new and disruptive technologies” and “focus our attention to our friends in Ukraine and ensure that they continue to feel the unity and determination that exists in the Alliance.”
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico opposed Ukraine’s entry into NATO. The head of the Slovak government fears that this is allegedly “leading to the Third World War.”
