The US Senate will not vote on a package to provide additional aid to Ukraine and strengthen US border security until early next year.
Republicans in the US Senate have not reached an agreement with the White House on changes to the immigration law on which the aid package to Ukraine is tied. The conclusion of the agreement was postponed until January. Reuters reported this on Tuesday, December 19, citing Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer.
“Our negotiators will be working very hard over the holidays in December and January, and our goal is to get something done as soon as we get back,” Schumer told reporters.
The postponement of the agreement was also confirmed by the second number of Republicans in the House of Representatives, John Thune, who said that an agreement could not be reached in January.
“Democrats have run out of time to the point where it is impossible to pass a meaningful border security deal before Christmas,” he said on the Senate floor.
Let’s remember that at a press conference on Tuesday, President Vladimir Zelensky expressed confidence that Ukraine will receive the necessary support from America.
Earlier, the White House called on the US Congress not to delay making a decision on new aid to Ukraine. They emphasized that Putin’s victory would mean a threat to the entire world order.
