He said this at a press conference following the summit of EU leaders in Brussels, writes Le Figaro.
I haven’t changed my number [телефону]- said Macron.
This is how he commented on the words of the Russian President on a direct line that Macron had stopped communicating with him.
The French leader noted that it was not he who started the war, “violating treaties,” and it was not France “that committed war crimes in Ukraine, which makes dialogue almost impossible.”
If President Putin has a desire for dialogue and serious proposals for moving forward, a way out of the conflict [в Україні] and building a strong peace, that is, with respect for international law and, therefore, for the interests and sovereignty of Ukraine, I will accept the call,” said the French President.
During a direct line on December 14, Putin said that he was ready for contacts with Macron, but relations with France were terminated on the initiative of its president. According to Putin, he “does not shy away from these contacts,” but Macron does not want to talk.
We had a fairly good, kind, working relationship. As you know, I have been to France, Mr. Macron came to Russia. But at some point the President of France stopped communicating with us. We didn’t stop, I didn’t stop. He stopped this. If there is interest, please, we are ready,” Putin said then.
Macron is one of the main world leaders who tried to negotiate with Putin before and after the war in Ukraine.
