Prime Minister Georgie Maloney’s government has pledged to tackle youth crime and youth problems following a series of high-profile crimes involving minors in deprived urban areas.
Italian law enforcement has detained around 40 people during a nationwide police operation against youth gangs. ANSA reported this on Friday, December 15.
It is stated that more than 500 police officers are involved in the operation. The arrests took place in 14 provinces, including Catania, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Palermo and Verona.
During the arrest, law enforcement officers seized weapons, knives, brass knuckles, drugs and cash. A quarter of those incarcerated are minors.
“Police actions are mainly focused on places where young people gather and places associated with “trap,” a musical genre that combines rap and hip-hop,” the newspaper said.
In the Greek capital, Athens, law enforcement officials detained a group of Italian neo-fascists who had come to participate in a rally.
