Observers write that the activity of the new Taliban movement Tehreek-Jihad Pakistan has increased recently.
Gunmen attacked a regional police station and two military posts in northwestern Pakistan, sparking a shootout that left four officers and three militants dead. The Associated Press reported this on Friday, December 15.
According to local police chief Iftikhar Shah, the militants first attacked the police headquarters in the town of Tank in Dera Ismail Khan province, where two policemen were “martyred” and three others were injured, and two of the attackers were killed. A third militant was killed by soldiers in an attack on a nearby army post.
Within hours, militants also attacked a military post in the northwestern Khyber region bordering Afghanistan, killing two soldiers and wounding five others.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), are suspected of being behind them.
Let’s recall that on September 1, a terrorist attack took place at an Islamist rally in Pakistan, killing at least 54 people.
