The European Commission has proposed to allocate 50 billion euros to Ukraine over the next five years. This decision must be approved by all EU leaders.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked the adoption of an EU budget decision that would have included a medium-term aid program for Ukraine. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced this on Friday, December 15, at the end of negotiations between EU leaders, which lasted until midnight, writes European Pravda.
Michel noted that the topic of discussion was not only Ukraine’s financing. EU leaders were offered a “mega package” for adoption, which included funding to support Ukraine, costs for migration programs, and funding for the EU Solidarity and Defense Fund.
“Only one state could not agree to this decision… The remaining 26 leaders agreed to this “mega-package”, including Sweden, whose prime minister, according to internal procedures, should discuss this decision in parliament, but, as I hope, will join others,” – said the President of the European Council.
He added that the 27th leader who did not give permission was Hungarian Prime Minister Orban.
In this regard, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote on his profile Xthat aid to Ukraine was vetoed and they will return to this issue next year.
Viktor Orban has threatened to block all EU aid to Ukraine, as well as further movement of our country in the bloc, if EU leaders do not agree to reconsider their entire strategy for supporting Kyiv .
Zelensky reported what he discussed with Orban
