This incident was not a threat to the North Atlantic Alliance, because the fall of the drone was not the result of a deliberate attack by the Russians. At the same time, they “strongly condemned” Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and along the Danube. Acting NATO Spokesman Dylan White announced this on December 14 on the social network X.
NATO has no information indicating any deliberate Russian attacks against allies. We continue to monitor the situation and are in close contact with the Romanian authorities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador due to the crash of the drone. The agency “expressed a strong protest in connection with the incident caused by the uncontrolled fall of a drone, which was used in an attack on Ukrainian port infrastructure.”
Let us recall that on the night of December 14, the Russians terrorized the southern regions for more than six hours in a row with several waves of drone attacks and simultaneously launched a missile strike. Last night, air defense forces shot down 41 of 42 Shahed drones. The vast majority were destroyed over the Odessa region.
One of the downed Russian drones fell on Romanian territory and left behind a crater 1.5 m deep near the village of Grindu, located about 8 km from the Ukrainian port of Reni. In the airspace, the military scrambled F-17 fighters and Eurfighter aircraft.
