The section of the Kyiv metro between the Demeevskaya and Lybidskaya stations has been problematic for 12 years. The first cracks in the tunnel appeared in March 2011.

Director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration Ruslan Kandibor said this in an interview with NV.
The fact that water leaks into the metro is provided for by all DSNs [державні будівельні норми] during construction, the official explained.
But the flow of water did not decrease and began to carry away soil and sand. We saw the cracks and decided to involve the Research Institute of Building Structures in this. “He tentatively concluded that there is a threat, a possible destruction of the tunnel, a possible accident with a subway train, which could result in an emergency,” he said.
We would like to remind you that on December 8, the capital authorities announced a stop in train traffic in the section between the Lybidskaya and Demeevskaya stations of the Obolonsko-Teremkovskaya metro line due to depressurization of the tunnel and the appearance of cracks in its walls, which led to flooding of the tunnel in the specified section of the metro.
The prosecutor’s office began a pre-trial investigation into the fact of official negligence, which led to grave consequences.
All metro stations in the capital will operate as shelters, this decision was made by the State Commission on Technogenic-Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations.
Changes are being made in the organization of traffic on the busiest sections of the capital’s roads.
