Probably, an order came from the Kremlin to capture Avdeevka and, possibly, Kupyansk, by March 2024. These developments could contribute to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s success in the presidential election. This is stated in a new report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts say Putin’s announcement of a wartime presidential bid “indicates that his campaign may focus on Russia’s war in Ukraine more than ISW previously estimated.” According to experts, in this way the dictator secured himself in case the occupiers did not meet a certain deadline.
ISW said the Kremlin is using Putin’s statement to convince a large group of voters that the Russian military supports the incumbent president.
Let us remind you that the Defense Forces stated that in almost two months of attempts to cordon off Avdeevka, the Russian army lost more than 15 thousand soldiers and officers killed and wounded. Also, when trying to capture the city, the enemy lost eight Su-25 aircraft and more than 600 pieces of equipment.
