Parliament asked to support the opening of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The corresponding appeal was adopted by the votes of 292 people’s deputies at a meeting on December 9. People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this on Telegram.
The Verkhovna Rada called for a decision to open negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU at a meeting of the European Council on December 15, 2023.
Let us remind you that in the summer of 2022 Ukraine and Moldova received candidate status for accession to the EU. After this, Ukraine had to comply with a number of recommendations from the European Union in order to begin accession negotiations.
On November 8, the European Commission officially recommended the start of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova to the EU, because Ukraine has fulfilled 90% of the recommendations made by Brussels, granting candidate status in June 2022.
On November 28, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament publicly advocated that the European Council confirm the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
