On December 8, people’s deputies adopted a bill on changes to legislation to strengthen the independence of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. The document repealed some of the norms on “Lozovoy’s amendments,” but very partially. People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported this on Telegram.
As parliamentarian Irina Gerashchenko informed on social networks, amendments regarding the period of investigation before the presentation of suspicion were canceled. During the period of martial law, a period of 30 months was established for the investigation before serving a suspicion, but now these restrictions have been lifted and the investigation can continue indefinitely.
The Anti-Corruption Center said that the law enforcement parliamentary committee preparing the comparative table for the bill left in the document the key norm of “Lozovoy’s amendments” – clause 10 of part 1 of art. 284 Code of Criminal Procedure. Experts noted that without its abolition, other changes are not correct.
Let us recall that on December 8, people’s deputies generally supported the bill on changes to legislation to strengthen the independence of the SAP. With this document, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is removed from the structure of the Office of the Prosecutor General and organized into a separate prosecutorial body.
