Zurabishvili could be removed from the post of president in August-September 2024, the leader of the Georgian Dream said.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili may be removed in August-September 2024. This was said by the leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia Online reports.
According to him, “there is information that such a scenario is being actively discussed.” However, the politician did not say where such data came from.
“There is a high probability that the president will resign; in fact, he will be removed. Most likely, this could happen in August-September,” Kobakhidze said.
In his opinion, Zurabishvili can support the election campaign of the opposition or participate in the parliamentary elections himself.
“I think a more practical scenario for these people (the radical opposition – ed.) is to leave him as president, because Zurabishvili does not have many electoral resources,” said the leader of Georgian Dream.
We remind you that on October 18, the Georgian parliament failed to impeach Zurabishvili. The representatives did not get the required number of votes.
They tried to impeach Zurabishvili due to the fact that, despite the lack of government permission, he went on a foreign tour to achieve Georgia’s status as a candidate for joining the European Union. According to Georgian canons, the president is obliged to obtain the government’s permission for this departure. The Constitutional Court found that Zurabishvili violated the constitution with his actions.
