The Pentagon website briefly reported that Austin assured his colleague of Washington’s continued support for Kyiv, and also discussed with Umerov the basic needs of Ukraine on the battlefield.
In addition, the ministers talked about Ukraine’s strategic goals for the next year and the long-term vision of the future Armed Forces.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported that Austin and Umerov also talked about intensifying the construction of fortifications. The Ukrainian minister informed his colleague about the latest news in this direction.
Rakurs previously reported that the Pentagon provided Ukraine with technical data for production as part of the FrankenSAM project. We are talking about creating hybrid air defense systems based on Western and Soviet weapons. It is assumed that the mixed system will combine Western-caliber missiles with Soviet-style launchers and radars. In particular, we are talking about the use of Buk air defense missile launchers and Sea Sparrow missiles.
Another option is Soviet-era radars and Sidewinder missiles, as The New York Times wrote about back in October.
The agreement to accelerate joint weapons production and data sharing between the United States and Ukraine states that the Pentagon and industry partners have provided technical data to Ukraine to begin production of certain FrankenSAM projects aimed at modernizing Ukraine’s aging air defense systems by integrating certain Western munitions. Simultaneous production of these systems in Ukraine and the United States will speed up deployment and allow Ukraine to make a significant contribution to support its air defense systems.
