The G7 will introduce restrictions on the import of non-industrial diamonds from Russia until January 1, 2024.

Following the results of the virtual summit, the G7 states announced their intentions to introduce restrictions on Russian diamonds on January 1, 2024. The British government announced this yesterday.

“We will introduce restrictions on the import of non-industrial diamonds mined, processed or manufactured in Russia until January 1, 2024, and then further gradual restrictions on the import of diamonds of Russia processed in third countries. The approximate start date of these restrictions is March 1, 2024,” – said the message.

It is indicated that by September 1, 2024, the G7 countries, which are the main importers of rough diamonds, will create a mechanism for the inspection and certification of rough diamonds and consult on this issue with producing countries and partner

Earlier, the media reported that the European Commission agreed to ban Russian diamonds. The corresponding proposal has already been sent to 27 EU countries as part of the 12th package of sanctions. Unanimous approval is expected in the coming days.

It was also found that fifty Russian companies specializing in the mining, processing and sale of diamonds could be subject to sanctions.
