In Ukraine, work is underway on a new modification of the missile for the Neptune complex, as well as the modernization of the Buk and S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems. Deputy Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Ivan Gavrilyuk said this. According to him, we are talking about the creation of the so-called “long” Neptune, that is, a new modification of the rocket for the Neptune complex. The media suggests that we are talking about adapting the R-360 missile of the Neptune complex to destroy ground targets. Also, according to Gavrilyuk, active work is being carried out together with the Ministry of Strategic Industries to strengthen the air defense system. Gavrilyuk added that he could not yet talk in detail about new developments, but noted that work is underway to modernize the Buk and S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.
The price of gold has set a new historical record. On Monday morning, the price of January gold futures rose 2.89% to $2,140.7 an ounce. The price of gold rose above $2,100 for the first time in history. Western analysts expect that by 2024, gold prices may remain above $2,000 per ounce, reaching new historic highs. Factors in its favor include geopolitical uncertainty, a likely weaker US dollar and potentially lower interest rates.
Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico spoke on the phone with the head of the Ukrainian government Denis Shmygal. They agreed to meet at the Slovak-Ukrainian border in early 2024. At the same time, Fico excluded the supply of arms and ammunition to Ukraine from state and army warehouses. “We do not believe in a military solution to the conflict in Ukraine, because it only leads to unnecessary bloodshed without results,” the prime minister said. However, he added that Slovakia will continue to ban grain imports.
The situation in Ukraine’s energy system remains difficult due to the high accident rate of power units in thermal power plants. “In the morning, one of the heating plants in the south stopped working due to damage from shelling. During the day, for various technical reasons, five units in thermal power plants in different regions lost of operation for emergency repairs,” the message said. At the same time, the electricity produced by the power plants is sufficient to meet the needs of all consumers. Ukrenergo does not yet predict a shortage in the solar energy system.
On Monday night, the Russians attacked Ukraine with 23 strike dons from Cape Chauda (occupied Crimea) and a guided missile from the airspace of the occupied Kherson region. Air defense forces destroyed 18 Shahed-type attack UAVs and an X-59 guided missile. Air defense is activated in at least 9 regions of Ukraine.
For the first time, Ukraine reached a production level of six Bogdans (Bogdan self-propelled guns – ed.) per month. President Vladimir Zelensky said this. There is also room to increase that number, he said. The head of state said that Ukraine received from Western partners both a few missiles for existing air defense systems and new, modern anti-aircraft systems.
