If Estonia is forced to temporarily close border crossings due to migration pressure, Estonians will have problems returning home.
The Estonian Police and Border Guard Department are warning citizens of the country that they should not travel to Russia, as they may have problems returning home.
“It is worth paying attention to the fact that if Estonia temporarily closes its border crossings due to migration pressure, it will no longer be possible to return to Estonia at each particular border crossing,” the appeal said.
The police emphasized that for several weeks Russia has been sending groups of foreigners to the border who do not have the legal right to enter EU countries.
“If this practice continues, we will be forced to close border crossings to protect national security and public order, as Finland has already done due to migration pressure,” the department warned.
It was noted that if “the border crossing is closed, it will be closed to all those crossing the border,” and returning through another checkpoint “can extend the journey by several hundred kilometers.”
It was previously reported that Estonia is placing additional barriers on the border with Russia. The first concrete pyramids on the bridge in Narva appeared on November 16 after 19 citizens of Somalia and Syria arrived at the eastern border of Estonia, trying to enter the country by crossing the Narva border.
