Georgia has become one of the most popular destinations for Russian emigration after the start of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation on Ukraine.
Citizens of the Russian Federation bought 5,780 apartments in Georgia since the beginning of 2023, which is more than in the whole of 2022: last year, Russians bought 5,424 apartments in Georgia. This is reported by the Georgian publication Business Media in connection with the country’s Ministry of Justice.
The number of land plots purchased by Russian citizens in Georgia has also increased. For the whole of 2022, Russians bought 1,625 plots in the country, from January to November 2023 – 1,872 plots.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, 1.46 million Russians entered the republic in 2022. At least 100 thousand stayed to live in the country, 3300 received Georgian citizenship.
By the end of 2022, more than 40% of housing purchased in Georgia by foreigners will be accounted for by Russians. The second place belongs to Israelis – 1892 apartments, the third – to immigrants from Ukraine (1321 apartments).
It was previously reported that Russia plans to locate a fleet base in the unknown Abkhazia. The Georgian Foreign Ministry called such intentions of the Russian Federation a grave violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and another provocative attempt to legitimize the illegal occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
