Previously, the British Maritime Trade Agency had reported explosions and drone movements near Yemen. Meanwhile, the Yemeni Houthis confirmed that they attacked two ships – although they say that they belong to Israel.
By the way, in November they seized a ship co-owned by an Israeli businessman. At the time of the hijacking, the ship was leased to a Japanese company. The Yemeni Houthis then threatened to attack all ships associated with Israel in the Red Sea.
Yemeni army spokesman Yahya Sari said the Houthis “prohibit” Israeli ships from passing through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. This is stated on his Twitter page.
He noted that they will continue to “deal painful blows to the occupying entity with ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, until it stops its aggression in the Gaza Strip.”
The Houthis are a Shia-Zaidi paramilitary group operating in Yemen.
The group is named after its founder and former leader Hussein al-Houthi, who was killed by the Yemeni army in September 2004.
